When working a regular job along with a part-time job or full time job at home, along with other life activities, you may at the end of the day, find it hard to relax and shut off the ongoing dialogue in our minds which makes it difficult to fall asleep. Here are some ways to relax the body and mind:
- Block out any incoming light in the bedroom. Use heavy curtains or shades at the windows.
- Cut off all electronics at least two hours before bedtime. (computer, phones etc.)
- Avoid drinking caffeine or alcoholic beverages after 4pm.
- Take a warm shower just before bed.
- Do yoga to stretch and relax the muscles
- Do a meditation
- Get enough exercise and fresh air during the day. (This will help you to easily fall asleep during the night).

5 Foods that Help Promote Sleep
Are you getting enough exercise during the week? Exercise is a very important activity for the self-employed. When working from home, you will actually get less exercise because there won’t be a commute, especially if you work in an urban environment. I, for example, no longer have to hustle from home to walk three blocks to the train station and three more long blocks from the train to the job. However, you now have more time to commit to going to the gym or doing some form of exercise of your choice.
Science says that exercise triggers a brain neurotrophic that increases learning, plasticity and attention, as well as, improves mood and focus. Stretching is important as well, as it will prevent mobility issues that arise from sitting at a computer for many hours. I’m sure you would agree that business owners need a well functioning brain and health to achieve their business goals.
There’s no need to “stress out” about getting in exercise, but for the purposes of productivity and wellness, you’d want to make sure that you do some form of exercise daily. Just focus on doing the exercise activities that you enjoy and you’ll be able to stick to it. The main purpose of exercise is to move regularly to wake up your body and strengthen it. You can alternate various types of exercise to avoid dropping out of your regime when there is a seasonal change.
Hopefully you are not eating the wrong types of foods. We need to be ever alert, clear minded and feeling physically well and happy in order to reach our business goals. What does that picture look like?
When you are getting nutrient dense foods in its natural form, you’ll sleep better, feel happier, be thinner, think creatively, be stronger… and the list goes on!
Here’s what to do to fit the picture…
- avoid carbs and sugars that make you tired after eating because your blood sugar had spiked
- eat more complex carbs, healthy fats and proteins
- Don’t over eat
- eat a variety of fruits, vegetables and proteins
- avoid junk food, fried foods, and frozen dinners
If you are thinking that this is all too much to do, then you need to stop treating diet and fitness as separate matters and create a business plan that includes both.

A positive mindset is also important if you are seeking to get results you want in business. There will be many occasions when things are not flowing the way you want. We can very easily lose motivation, lose focus and fall off track.
Many of us might begin to look at our peers who seem to be more successful, and wonder why we can’t do the same. We have to take in consideration that each individual has certain skill sets, resources, or energy, that contribute to how fast or slow they reach their goals. But there’s one thing that we need to know, regardless of what the circumstances are, it’s about how you think or react to the challenges.
A person who has a positive mindset for success sees a setback as an opportunity and learns from it. Successful entrepreneurs will not blame others for what is not working, but will seek to make the changes needed to improve in skillsets and develop the behaviors and actions that will get the results they are seeking.
